One of the fourteen recommendations that came out of the Lowland Agricultural Peat Task Force report that was published Thursday 29th June was the adoption of a roadmap that sets out for the widescale adoption of paludiculture as a commercial reality. The plan over a ten-year timescale, is to unlock a series of changes required to take paludiculture from a new opportunity, particularly for farmers on marginal or low-lying land, to the profitable production of wetland crops under conditions that support the competitive advantage of these crops whilst better managing carbon stocks.
The roadmap has two parts, the first setting out the planning required to make paludiculture a reality and the second explores the pathways of the journey in more detail.
