Wet meadows are often celebrated for their biodiversity value and cultural importance, but their role in climate mitigation and sustainable biomass production is only just beginning to receive the attention it deserves. This June, researchers, practitioners and policymakers from across Europe will come together in Poland for a dedicated Paludi4All workshop on wet meadows, focusing on paludiculture approaches, biomass use, and the development of viable value chains.

The Paludi4All Workshop on Wet Meadows will take place on 17–18 June 2026 in Białystok, Poland, bringing together expertise from a wide range of European contexts. The event will explore how wet meadows, when managed as paludiculture systems, can contribute simultaneously to biodiversity protection, carbon conservation and rural livelihoods, while supporting the transition away from drainage‑based peatland use.
A central focus of the workshop will be the practical use of biomass harvested from wet meadows, including discussions on processing, markets and value chains. Participants will exchange experiences on how paludiculture products can move beyond pilot projects and into scalable, economically viable systems that work for farmers and land managers. By taking a value‑chain perspective, the workshop aims to connect land‑use practice with downstream users, policy frameworks and emerging markets.
The workshop is hosted by the Institute of Technology and Life Sciences – National Research Institute (ITP‑PIB) in collaboration with the Polish Society for Bird Protection (PTOP), reflecting the strong link between wet meadow management, biodiversity conservation and agricultural innovation. It forms part of the wider Paludi4All Horizon Europe project, which is assessing the socio‑economic, environmental and climate impacts of paludiculture across Europe and identifying pathways for upscaling this climate‑positive land use.
For those working in peatland restoration, low‑emission agriculture, biomass utilisation or rural development, this workshop offers a valuable opportunity to engage directly with European peers, share insights from practice, and help shape the future direction of paludiculture‑based wet meadow management. This is an invitation-only workshop, however if you are interested in joining in or know someone who should be part of the conversation, contact them, info@paludi4all.eu they would be pleased to hear from you.
Further Paludi4All stakeholder workshops are also planned later in 2026 in Finland on 11–12 August and in Germany on 30 September–1 October, continuing the project’s emphasis on exchange, co‑creation and learning across regions. More information coming soon.
