Paludiculture Community Workshop: Day 2

Elizabeth has worked through the notes from the second day of the Paludiculture Workshop at Bridgwater and we have published them on the events page.

It was a great opportunity to discuss the continued development of paludiculture and this community and there were many good points raised. There is still an opportunity to add further thoughts and continue the discussion using the forum.

The term paludiculture was developed in Germany and the definitions upon which it was based refer to crop production on their wetlands. The first exercise explored these terms with Elizabeth getting everyone to move up and down a line across the venue to gauge the characteristics of the systems we think should be the focus of work in the UK. In the second part of the session the topics below were discussed.

• What is needed to best create impact for the work delivered within PEF?

• What will be the major gaps in knowledge after PEF+?

• What should happen in a PEF2 or other paludiculture research programme?

• The Lowland Peat Taskforce created and then enabled regional groups often with strong farmer engagement across the lowland agriculture peat landscapes of the UK. What would be the role of regional groups going forward?
