The Holker Farm Estate has received the prestigious sustainability and environmental award at the 2025 Cumbria Farmer Awards in recognition of the wetter farming research they are undertaking and their management of the peat on their estate. Over 220 guests gathered to celebrate achievements in the county's agricultural industry, highlighting the passion, skill, and resilience of the region's farming community.
Holker Farm Estate, in Carkin-Cartmel, on the marshy land between the hills of the Lake District and the sea marshes, is conducting research and developing a business case for growing alternative crops on their wet peat soil as part of Natural England’s PEF projects.
Congratulations to all involved.
