Paludiculture North-West Workshop

The Care-Peat team and Paludiculture North-West are holding a workshop and tour of the Carbon Farm and follow-up discussion session to find out more about paludiculture from farmers and experts in the field. The event will be on Monday 6th March in Winmarleigh, Preston with a hot lunch and transport to the Carbon Farm provided on the day, booking is open now.

VISIT TO WINMARLEIGH CARBON FARM

The Winmarleigh Carbon Farm is a pioneering project looking to restore the carbon storage capacity of peatlands, through alternative land management options. A previously drained agricultural field adjacent to Winmarleigh Moss SSSI has been re-wet and planted with a permanent cover crop of sphagnum moss. This aims to prevent further carbon loss from the area, protect existing soil carbon and, in time, returning the site's ability to sequester carbon.

In addition to the Carbon Farm tour and demonstration from Sphagnum growing experts Beadamoss, the workshop will be your chance to hear from DERFA’s peatlands policy expert, a real paludiculture farm business case and have an opportunity to plan your very own paludiculture farm in our interactive workshop.
