Engagement interests
We are undertaking rewetting of lowland peat (in four trial fields at around 700 ft asl, involving water dams and remote water table sensors) and would like to partner with other farmers or organisations to mutual advantage and develop
project scale.
Additional information
We were one of four farms in the UK in the LEAF "Journey to Net Zero". Initial soil sampling and carbon calculations showed we were already at net zero. Further work identified that this was because of very high soil organic levels (as high as 70+%) as a result of underlying levels of peat. A Management Plan was prepared by a specialist consultant and four fields (about 20 acres) are being trialed with rewetting to stabilise stored carbon and sequestrate more carbon if possible.
The land is poor quality permanent pasture with regulated minimal grazing.
A farm walk was recently held with around 35 attendees, and which engendered a lot of interest and some publicity.
