About
Julia is a behavioural ecologist and lecturer of Zoology, Wildlife Conservation and Environmental Land Management within the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Harper Adams University (HAU). Zoology Course Tutor at Harper she is also Chair of the Environmental Sustainability Land & Soil Farm Group which supports the sustainable transition of the Future Farm to carbon Net Zero. She contributes to the following HAU research groups: Centre for Crop and Environmental Science (Soil Thematic Group) and the Centre for Sustainable Crop and Agri-food. She has extensive business and project management experience and has secured funding from Natural England (Paludiculture Exploration Fund: Paludiculture Innovation Project) and the Environment Agency (Lowland Agriculture Peat Water Discovery Pilot: Patchy Peat Solutions Project) with other Harper staff. Her research interests include Evolutionary Biology (particularly of birds and mammals) and the functionality of ecosystems in the context of climate resilience and One Health. She is part of the HAU Bird Group, Shropshire Dormouse Group and Academic Advisor to the Shropshire Mammal Group. She is involved in a number of projects including the Old River Bed, beaver release by Shrewsbury Town Council and Shropshire Wildlife Trust.

About
Elizabeth has over 25 years applied soil and nutrient management research experience and has engaged with a wide range of research projects connected with the study of nutrient cycling in soils and with the environmental impact of farming systems. At the smallest scale she has applied isotope dilution techniques to investigate mineralisation, immobilisation and nitrification processes. Most recently she has been very active in developing farmer-focussed approaches to measurement of soil health and developing on-farm toolkits for improved soil management. She moved to NIAB and became head of the integrative interdisciplinary farming systems research team in 2017.
